sports & social club
These clubs are all geared to providing the community within Hemel Hempstead an opportunity to improve their physical wellbeing and create avenues with which to build social circles within a community group. In England as a whole, there are health challenges within the ethnic minority and between different ethnic minority groups. The South Asian community – the predominant demographic associated with the DBWA – have considerably higher rates of diabetes and heart problems and one of the key causes of this is due to a lack of exercise. The DBWA are trying to setup as many different clubs to encourage residents to try these and in turn find a sporting activity they can enjoy and use to keep fit.
We currently have the following activities running successfully:
Table Tennis
We do not have formal classes as such but we do have a table tennis (along with balls and bats) at the DBWA Centre which is available for use free of charge. From time to time we do have coaching on Mondays for those looking to improve their game. If you would like to know more, hire the use of the centre for table tennis or have any other queries, please contact us using the ‘Contact’ page.
DBWA Cycling Club
The establishment of this cycling club has led to regular outdoor cycling sessions promoting physical wellbeing as well as camaraderie amongst those taking part. What started as a gentle ride has led to a group successfully completing the London-Hastings 100km ride in July 2021.
If you would like to join (don’t worry if you don’t have a bike – we will soon have spares you can borrow) please get in touch. There is currently no timetable for the cycling sessions but you will be added to the groups so we can communicate plans with you.
